What do we believe happens when we die? And how do those beliefs shape the way we live? Can thinking about death help us understand life more clearly? Join Damon, a university professor, published poet and dedicated student of the world’s major religions and spiritual traditions, for an accessible discussion about death and the afterlife. We’ll explore historic and modern ideas from Eastern and Western philosophy, discovering how different thinkers and cultures have approached mortality, loss and the possibility of something beyond our lives.
Together, we’ll unpack these ideas in plain language, compare perspectives and consider what they offer us in everyday life. Does the thought of an afterlife bring comfort, raise questions or change our sense of responsibility? How might accepting uncertainty influence what we value and how we spend our time? No knowledge of philosophy or religion is necessary, and all beliefs, including doubt and non-belief, are welcome. You can share your perspective without discussing personal experiences of loss. Expect a thoughtful, welcoming conversation that makes an intimidating subject easier to approach and offers new ways to reflect on what makes life meaningful.
