Doodling might look like play, but turning an idea from your imagination into lines on a page exercises visual thinking, attention, association and creative problem-solving in ways that simply typing a prompt doesn’t. Join Nico—Popcorn’s resident artist host, graphic designer and fashion entrepreneur—for a playful, hands-on workshop using prompts and quick doodling exercises to get your brain thinking differently. You’ll practice generating ideas quickly, breaking through creative blocks, making unexpected connections, interpreting the same prompt in multiple ways and letting go of the need to make something “perfect.” Most importantly, you’ll leave with simple doodling exercises you can use whenever you need to wake up your creativity, brainstorm or approach a problem from a fresh angle. And absolutely no drawing ability is required.

And consider this a little warm-up for something bigger. Inktober returns next month, and every year Popcorn creates a group where we take on daily drawing prompts and share what we create—not to judge, rank or compete, but to encourage each other to keep making things. Inktober is completely free to join, including for non-members, and this workshop will give you a taste of exactly that spirit: one prompt, many minds, and wonderfully different results. In a world where it has never been easier to outsource creativity to technology, there’s something surprisingly valuable about picking up a pen, confronting a blank page and training yourself to imagine, decide and create for yourself.
