What should you build first if you want to succeed: knowledge, skills, relationships, resources or reputation? Why can being bizarre sometimes be a better strategy than being normal? And why might trying to prove yourself right actually make you worse at making decisions? Inspired by Steven Bartlett’s bestselling The Diary of a CEO: The 33 Laws of Business and Life, this guided discussion will explore some of the book’s most interesting and useful ideas about how people build careers, businesses and lives. You absolutely do not need to have read the book — Omar will introduce each concept, explain the thinking behind it and give everyone plenty to discuss.
The session will be hosted by Omar, a successful tech entrepreneur, who’ll take four of the book’s ideas and push them beyond the page. We’ll explore the “five buckets” and why the order you fill them matters; why standing out can be more valuable than fitting in; how negation and challenging your own beliefs can lead to better decisions; and the old saying that “the devil is in the details” — including when attention to detail becomes a waste of time. Expect practical examples, disagreements, thought experiments and ideas you can apply to your own work and life. It’s part business, part psychology and part life philosophy — with 33 laws as the starting point, not the final word.
