▼What does it actually mean to recover from trau...
What does it actually mean to recover from trauma? Is recovery about forgetting what happened, becoming the person you were before... or learning to live differently with something that cannot be undone? Difficult experiences can leave us carrying fear, anger, shame or conflicting needs long after the original danger has passed. Part of us may want to move forward while another part remains determined to protect us. So where does this inner conflict come from, why can it be so difficult to resolve, and what allows a person to gradually regain a sense of safety and stability?
Join David Ammerschlaeger, Chief Psychological Counsellor, for a thoughtful and compassionate exploration of the psychology of trauma and recovery. Together, we’ll examine what recovery is.... and what it isn’t: why simply “getting over it” rarely works, how protective responses that once helped us can later hold us back, and what psychological healing can actually look like in practice. David will explore both the why and the how, while opening the conversation to questions and different perspectives on resilience, inner conflict and restoring emotional balance. This will be a deep but accessible, judgement-free discussion designed not to diagnose anyone, but to help us understand ourselves and others with greater clarity, and perhaps rethink what it really means to heal.
