In this club, you'll better understand how your brain learns, and you'll use that to your advantage.
Why is learning something new so mentally demanding? And why can a task you normally handle easily feel impossible when you’re stressed? What helps us think clearly, remember more and stay engaged with a challenge? Join Anton, a critical-thinking coach and cognitive trainer, for an interactive exploration of cognitive performance. We’ll discuss how different parts of the brain work together, question familiar “left-brained versus right-brained” labels, and explore the relationship between stress, attention and learning. You’ll discover useful ways to think about the effort behind building a skill—and how to make that effort more manageable.
Through discussion and two games with different levels of challenge, we’ll experience what happens when a task feels too easy, too difficult or demanding enough to keep us engaged. We’ll explore the idea of an optimal learning zone, discuss how movement can support memory, and consider ways to apply these ideas to work and skill-building. No science knowledge or particular ability is necessary: the activities are opportunities to experiment, notice your responses and learn together. Expect a thoughtful, practical session that gives you a clearer understanding of how you learn and new approaches to tackling things that don’t come easily.
