Why do some spaces instantly feel harmonious, cosy, or inspiring, while others don’t? What exactly makes Scandinavian design so calming, or Japanese interiors so balanced and intentional? And how can you begin to identify your own design style? This engaging, hands-on introduction to interior design will be hosted by Rick, a successful interior designer with international experience transforming residential and commercial spaces. In the first hour, Rick will guide you through six major design styles from around the world, exploring their origins, history, key features, and real-world examples. You’ll gain an understanding of how culture and philosophy shape aesthetics, and how these principles can be applied in your own space.
And then, for the next and arguably most important skill... How does a good designer speak to a client, pinpoint what the client wants and design a space based on that? In the second hour, you’ll step into the role of both designer and client in an interactive role-play session using mood boards. You’ll describe your dream apartment, collaborate to create a visual concept, and learn how professionals turn vague ideas into cohesive design visions. Rick will also walk you through how designers use online tools to plan and present their ideas effectively. Whether you’re looking to refresh your room, explore a new creative field, or simply understand how design communicates mood and meaning, this workshop will give you a dynamic crash course into the world of interior design.
