What can a story almost 3,000 years old teach us about leadership, strategy and persuasion today? Inspired by The Odyssey and its larger-than-life hero Odysseus, this public speaking workshop explores what happens when a leader has to influence people under pressure, when the stakes are high, the path forward is uncertain and the people around you may not even agree on where they're going. Guided by Violetta, a brilliant and wonderfully patient TEDx public speaking coach, we'll look at Odysseus not simply as an ancient hero, but as a strategist and communicator: someone who survives extraordinary obstacles through credibility, storytelling, psychological insight and the ability to persuade others to keep following him. You don't need to have read The Odyssey, seen any adaptation or know anything about Greek mythology, Violetta will give you everything you need.

Then it's your turn to enter ancient Greece. You'll learn three foundations of classical rhetoric that still shape powerful communication today: Ethos (why should people trust you?), Pathos (how do you make them care?) and Logos (why should they believe your argument?). You'll put all three to work in a high-stakes “Ithaca Council” roleplay, where you'll need to speak, persuade, respond and think strategically as the situation develops around you. It's a chance to practise public speaking not as a prepared performance, but as something much closer to real leadership: reading the room, adapting under pressure and getting people to believe in both you and your message. Expect ancient wisdom, modern communication, dramatic situations and plenty of opportunities to experiment, make mistakes and become a more confident and persuasive speaker.
