In this club, we'll look at feminism from an evolutionary psychology point of view.
Why did human societies develop the gender roles they did? How much of the relationship between men and women is shaped by biology, culture, environment, or some combination of all three? And when viewed through the lens of evolutionary psychology, what exactly is feminism? Join Leon, a psychologist, for a thoughtful and open-minded discussion exploring one of the most influential social movements in modern history through the much longer story of human evolution. No background in psychology, feminism, or evolutionary theory is required—just curiosity and a willingness to explore different perspectives.
Together, we'll examine how gender relations may have evolved throughout human history, why feminist movements emerged when they did, and whether they represent a natural adaptation to changing societies, a challenge to older evolutionary patterns, or something else entirely. We'll discuss how feminism has affected different groups of people, the benefits and criticisms associated with it, and whether ideas resembling feminism may have appeared far more often throughout human history than we commonly assume. Rather than debating slogans or political identities, we'll focus on evidence, ideas, and questions, creating a space where participants can think critically, challenge assumptions, and engage in a respectful conversation about one of the most important topics shaping modern life.
