Whose dream are you actually chasing? Who decided what a “successful” life is supposed to look like? Who do you compare yourself to—and why them? Ambition can be an extraordinary force: it pushes us to grow, take risks, build things and become more than we were. But every pursuit has a price. The career that gives you status may take your freedom. The money that gives you security may demand years of stress. The relationship, body, lifestyle or version of yourself you’re working towards may be shaped as much by other people’s expectations as by your own desires. And perhaps the most unsettling question is: if you were chasing the wrong thing, how would you know?
In this session, we’ll examine the psychology behind what we strive for, and the trade-offs we often don’t notice until much later. We’ll talk about comparison, status, money, achievement, sacrifice and the strange phenomenon of reaching a goal only to immediately move the finish line. What has your ambition cost you so far? Which sacrifices are worth making, and which ones quietly hollow out the life you’re trying to improve? And ultimately, how much is enough? And would you recognize “enough” if you finally had it? Expect a thoughtful, revealing discussion that may leave you looking differently not only at what you want, but at why you want it in the first place.
