What is the soul of a story? And how much can we change before we lose it? Join Noah, a director and actor, for a Watch, Talk & Sing exploring Hadestown, the Broadway musical that transforms the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice into a strikingly modern story. At its heart is a musician’s journey to the underworld to bring back the woman he loves, but its questions reach far beyond mythology: love, power, trust and the struggle to hold on to hope. What makes an old story speak to a new generation? Should we preserve its original values, challenge them, or discover meanings its first audiences might never have imagined?
Through selected scenes, lively discussion and singing together, we’ll explore how music, performance, setting and character can give an ancient tale new life. Which changes deepen a story, and which turn it into something else entirely? Do storytellers owe more to the original work or to the audience sitting before them? As familiar myths continue to find new lives on stage and screen, we’ll discuss what makes a retelling feel both fresh and true. No knowledge of Greek mythology or Hadestown, and no singing experience, is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to watch, question and add your voice.
