▼Would you walk under a ladder, ignore a bad ome...
Would you walk under a ladder, ignore a bad omen or tempt fate by saying, “Nothing could possibly go wrong”? Why can a belief we don’t quite accept still make us hesitate? Join us for a lively discussion about frightening superstitions and legends from around the world, from black cats bringing bad luck to the fear of seven years’ misfortune after breaking a mirror. We’ll discover the stories and rituals attached to these beliefs, exploring why some are surprisingly similar across countries while others belong to a particular place.
Together, we’ll explore their history, how and why they emerged, and what they reveal about fear, uncertainty and our desire for control. Why do certain stories survive for generations, and how do they still influence us? Even when we laugh at them? Everyone is welcome to share a local legend, a family ritual or a superstition they follow “just in case”. No knowledge of folklore or psychology is necessary. Expect eerie stories, playful comparisons and thoughtful conversation that builds cultural knowledge while making us question what we believe... and why.
