Slurp your noodles in one country and you're showing appreciation; do it somewhere else and you might get some strange looks. Should you eat with your hands, chopsticks or a knife and fork? Who starts eating first? Who pays? And what does being a "good guest" actually mean in different parts of the world? In this guided discussion, foodie, artist, chef and lifelong student of culture and history Nico will take us around the world's dining tables, exploring fascinating traditions from China, Japan and India to Europe, the Americas and beyond.
Because table manners aren't really just about which fork to use. The way we eat together can reveal surprisingly deep ideas about respect, hospitality, family, hierarchy, generosity and even how we treat one another. Through stories, cultural traditions, surprising facts and plenty of discussion, we'll compare the unwritten rules different societies have created around one of humanity's oldest shared experiences. You'll also have lots of opportunities to share your own discoveries, travel experiences, embarrassing dining mistakes and opinions along the way. Come hungry for a smart, funny and cultured conversation about perhaps the most universal human ritual of all: sitting down and sharing food together.
