▼Research consistently suggests that, on average...
Research consistently suggests that, on average, people today have fewer close friends than they did just a few decades ago. Why is that? We have more ways to stay connected than at any other point in history. Our phones are filled with contacts, our social media feeds never stop updating, and we can message almost anyone in seconds. And what would even classify as a close friend?
In this guided discussion, we'll explore the changing nature of friendship in the modern world. What makes someone a real friend? Is it how often you talk, how long you've known each other, or whether they're the person you'd call if something went terribly wrong at 3 a.m.?
Together, we'll examine why making deep friendships often feels harder in adulthood, whether our increasingly busy and goal-oriented lives leave less room for genuine connection, and whether social media has brought us closer together, or simply given us the illusion of being connected. We'll also ask some challenging questions: Is there a relationship between having hundreds of WeChat contacts and having only a handful of people you truly trust? Can friendships exist without an agenda or expectation of benefit? Whether you have one close friend or twenty, this thoughtful conversation will leave you reflecting on what friendship really means, why it matters so much, and how we can build stronger, more meaningful relationships in today's world.
