How does human memory work, and how is that directly connected to films? What do films remember for us, and what do they rewrite? Why do certain scenes feel like memories, even when we know they never happened to us? In this Watch & Talk session, Cannes-nominated director Anji invites you to explore cinema as a space of memory, where time bends, fragments repeat, and meaning is shaped as much by feeling as by fact. Together, we’ll watch selected scenes and ask how film gets so close to the way the human mind actually remembers.
Through guided discussion, we’ll unpack how editing, sound, framing, and narrative structure create both false and true memories for the viewer, and how films reconstruct the past from pieces rather than timelines. From there, the conversation opens outward: how does memory really work, how do we frame our own experiences, and why does memory feel less like an archive and more like a story we keep retelling? Thoughtful, playful, and deeply human, this session is about seeing films, and your own memories, with fresh eyes.
