描述
▼When does helping someone become more confident...
When does helping someone become more confident at dating cross the line into teaching them how to manipulate people? Is a “Pick Up Artist” simply someone who has learned how attraction works, as the term originally suggested, or the calculating, manipulative figure that PUA has come to mean in China? Hosted by Leon, a psychologist and cinephile, this Watch & Talk will use scenes from Hitch to explore the strange world of dating strategies: how we approach someone we like, the techniques we consciously or unconsciously use, and where we draw the line between creating connection, protecting ourselves from rejection and deliberately controlling someone else’s emotions.
Hitch is an incredibly fun, warm and positive movie, but underneath the comedy is a surprising amount of depth that’s easy to miss. As we watch key scenes together, we’ll look beyond Will Smith’s smooth advice and ask what actually makes his methods work, when they fail, and whether any of us are really as “natural” about dating as we like to think. Do we change how we speak, dress and behave to make ourselves more attractive? Is that manipulation, or simply part of being social? Expect plenty of laughs, uncomfortable recognition and smart discussion about attraction, authenticity and the complicated games people play when what they really want might simply be connection.
