DESCRIPTION:<a href="http://popcornclubshanghai.com/event/why-most-statisti
cs-are-bulls-40398/register">Why Most Statistics Are Bulls*%^ 为什么
多数统计数据是瞎扯淡</a>\nDid you know that 80% of all statistic
s are actually incorrect and misleading? Is that statistic one of them? Wh
en you read about a statistic\, how can you know if it's correct or not?_x
000D_ _x000D_ The truth is that stats (statistics) are one of the most pow
erful tools in convincing people. If someone quotes a stat\, our first rea
ction is often to believe it because it sounds impressive. The other truth
is that stats are often purposefully misleading and used to prove a concl
usion rather than to find the truth. _x000D_ _x000D_ For example\, if some
one tells you that 70% of Chinese married women are unhappy in their marri
age\, what does that mean? Which women did they ask? What cities are they
in? What are their social/economic classes? How many did they ask? How do
they define "unhappy"? Even if the stat is true\, there's so much beneath
every statistic that needs to be checked._x000D_ _x000D_ How many stats do
you just instantly believe and base your decisions on while they're actua
lly completely wrong?_x000D_ _x000D_ In this club\, we'll look at differen
t stats and we'll think critically about them. Do they make sense? Why? Wh
at other info can we find? How do we find that info?_x000D_ _x000D_ Let's
have an eye-opening discussion and a wonderful exercise in critical thinki
