hat comes to your mind when you hear someone say\, “Westerners are so in
dependent\,” or “Chinese people are all good at math”? Why do these
kinds of ideas feel true\, even when they might not be? Could stereotypes
be a useful way of navigating cultural communication? At least at first?_x
 000D_ _x000D_ Stereotypes\, generalised beliefs about groups of people\, a
re everywhere in our thinking and behaviour\, often picked up unconsciousl
 y. They can sometimes contain a grain of truth\, but they’re also shaped
by media\, history\, and culture\, and they could minimise complex human
experiences into narrow\, often unfair expectations. Studies show that eve
n brief exposure to stereotypes can influence how we see others and how we
behave ourselves\, affecting everything from job interviews to classroom
performance._x000D_ _x000D_ In this guided and respectful discussion\, we
’ll explore five common stereotypes about Westerners and five about Chin
ese people. There will be ones you’ve probably heard or even believe. To
gether\, we’ll examine each one: where it comes from\, how accurate it a
ctually is\, and what the real data tells us. We’ll also reflect on how
these ideas shape our interactions\, and what happens when we see people t
hrough the lens of assumption rather than understanding. The goal isn’t
to point fingers\, it’s to unpack these ideas thoughtfully and walk away
with more clarity\, empathy\, and insight into the people around us._x000
_x000D_ _x000D_ [...]
