es: Beauty\, Ageing & Self-Acceptance</a>\nWhen did looking older become s
omething we're supposed to be ashamed of? Why can a new wrinkle\, a changi
ng body or the first silver hairs feel strangely alarming\, even though th
ey're evidence of something completely ordinary: we've lived long enough t
o get them? Join Damon\, a university professor and poet based in Seattle\
, for an open and down-to-earth discussion about our complicated relations
hip with ageing. We'll look at how advertising\, social media\, beauty sta
ndards and modern wellness culture shape the way we see older faces and bo
dies\, and ask what actually happens to us as we age\, physically\, psycho
logically and socially. Are we genuinely afraid of getting older\, or are
we afraid of what we've been taught getting older means? We'll also get pr
actical. What does the science actually say about ageing skin\, and how mu
ch can all those creams\, powders and expensive treatments really do? When
does taking care of ourselves become fighting an impossible battle agains
t time? And perhaps most importantly\, can we change the way we experience
ageing itself? We'll explore how wrinkles and silver hair might be seen n
ot as defects to erase\, but as visible evidence of experience\, resilienc
e and a life being lived. This won't be a conversation pretending that get
ting older is wonderful all the time. There are real losses and difficult
changes too. Instead\, we'll talk honestly about whether it's possible to
care about how we look while also making peace with change\, and maybe eve
n learn to genuinely like some of the person we see getting older in the m
 irror.
