DESCRIPTION:<a href="http://popcornclubshanghai.com/event/speak-like-a-lead
 er-the-ancient-art-of-persuasion-45892/register">Speak Like a Leader: The
Ancient Art of Persuasion</a>\nWhat can a story almost 3\,000 years old te
ach us about leadership\, strategy and persuasion today? Inspired by The O
dyssey and its larger-than-life hero Odysseus\, this public speaking works
hop explores what happens when a leader has to influence people under pres
sure\, when the stakes are high\, the path forward is uncertain and the pe
ople around you may not even agree on where they're going. Guided by Viole
tta\, a brilliant and wonderfully patient TEDx public speaking coach\, we'
ll look at Odysseus not simply as an ancient hero\, but as a strategist an
d communicator: someone who survives extraordinary obstacles through credi
bility\, storytelling\, psychological insight and the ability to persuade
others to keep following him. You don't need to have read The Odyssey\, se
en any adaptation or know anything about Greek mythology\, Violetta will g
ive you everything you need. Then it's your turn to enter ancient Greece.
You'll learn three foundations of classical rhetoric that still shape powe
rful communication today: Ethos (why should people trust you?)\, Pathos (h
ow do you make them care?) and Logos (why should they believe your argumen
t?). You'll put all three to work in a high-stakes “Ithaca Council” ro
leplay\, where you'll need to speak\, persuade\, respond and think strateg
ically as the situation develops around you. It's a chance to practise pub
lic speaking not as a prepared performance\, but as something much closer
to real leadership: reading the room\, adapting under pressure and getting
people to believe in both you and your message. Expect ancient wisdom\, m
odern communication\, dramatic situations and plenty of opportunities to e
xperiment\, make mistakes and become a more confident and persuasive speak
 er. [...]
